In 1943 Abraham Maslow published a paper entitled, A Theory of Human Motivation. In that paper he first proposed that people have five fundamental needs and that they are hierarchical in nature.
With determination, education, motivation and help from family and friends people can transform challenge into opportunity.
Physiological needs include health, food and sleep and have to do with the maintenance of your body.
Safety needs include shelter and distance from danger.
Belonging needs include love, affection and being a part of a group.
Esteem needs include both self-esteem and esteem and respect from others.
Self-Actualization involves our achieving our individual potential and being fulfilled. Only if the needs lower on the hierarchy are satisfied can we come to this level where we can be capable of reaching our fullest potential.
